Spotlight #18 — Brian Cheung

Being able to beautifully capture life through his photorealistic style, Brian Cheung’s art is an ever-growing and curated journal of his thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Based in Melbourne, Brian Cheung’s practice focuses primarily on painting and drawing, often backed up by his keen eye for photography and design sensibilities. Taking inspiration from natural forms and figurative surrealism, Brian uses travel and residencies as a way to both isolate from and immerse himself with the world outside. With his solo exhibition, WHERE ARE WE NOW? coming up, he shared with us a small selection of works from the show.

WHERE ARE WE NOW?

November 7-24 at Tinning Street Gallery
Opening Thursday 7 November from 6pm

Where Are We Now? is a response and commentary on the relationship between man and nature in an age of fear and uncertainty, as interpreted through a personal lens.

”This new body of work represents a consolidation of past experiences as a means of understanding my own motivations, anxieties, and impulses as an artist. In a time when the concept of unspoiled nature is becoming an increasingly precious commodity, Where Are We Now? asks the open-ended question of where we are going, and at what cost.”
