HYPHENATED biennial x Liminal

Stretching through and across, lines taut, as we ask another: is affection just another word for love? What is it to be an artist, to be a failure; what is it to dedicate, to fascinate, to live? We inhabit the digital frontier, with and for one another, but how much of how we see to each other is shaped by external force, by monument, by Other? And: what do we do when a great variety of morbid symptoms finally do appear?

LIMINAL presents COMMUNITY, our fifth digital series of writing and art.

This series features work by A’isyiyah, Timmah Ball, Declan Fry, Amrita Hepi, Jazz Money, Nithya Nagarajan, Xen Nhà, Steph Ochona, Carol Que, Alison Whittaker, and Panda Wong.

Community has been edited by Maddee Clark & Leah Jing McIntosh, with design by Anny Luo.

THE LIMINAL COMMUNITY SERIES IS SUPPORTED BY HYPHENATED PROJECTS, part of the hyphenated 2020-21 biennial, a new artist-led project set to connect communities across Melbourne’s West, on the Lands of the Kulin Nation.

The inaugural edition focuses on dialogues, solidarity and meaningful collaborations between First Nations and Asian diasporic artists.

With exhibitions, public programs and online experiences, the project will run from December 2020 to December 2021. Join in on the conversation with Hyphenated Biennial and reframe our views of the world today.
